A bad memory can bring back a good one: on Sunday 8 March 2020 at 6pm in Chamonix's Eglise Saint-Michel, the very last concert before the population was confined was held, for an unusual line-up. The Geneva Chamber Choir ‘Studio Choral’ and the string octet Camerata du Mont-Blanc joined forces for a series of regional concerts devoted to the vocal and instrumental repertoire of the (17)18th century.

The two ensembles, together with a magnificent quartet of soloists and the vocal ensemble In Octo, under the talented direction of Claudio Ibarra, will once again bring you other gems from the same period.

More recently, at the inaugural Chamonix Vallée Classic's Festival last July, you had the opportunity to hear oboist Varvara Petrova.

She will open this concert with a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D minor BWV 1059 R.

The three ensembles will then join forces to present the monumental Harmoniemesse in Bb Major HobXXII 14, Joseph Haydn's musical testament and his last completed work, in a lighter version: as its name suggests, the original score incorporates a full wind ensemble, which will be reduced here to a string quintet and two oboes supporting the two chamber ensembles.

Like its predecessor, this concert has been scheduled outside the school holidays to allow residents to enjoy this unusual event.

The ensemble will also be performing at St Joseph's Church in Geneva on 29 March at 8.30pm.

Admission to the Chamonix concert is free (basket at the door).
