A graduate of the École Normale Supérieure de Musique in Paris and the Royal School of Music in London, Stefan Cassar has perfected his skills with pianists such as Germaine Mounier, Valery Affanasiev, Halina Czerny Stefanska and Sergio Perticaroli at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. A soloist in various chamber music ensembles, he has performed with prestigious artists such as violist Gérard Caussé, French cellist Dominique de Williencourt, Russian violinist Vadim Tchijik, Swiss flautist Myriam Hidber Dickinson, the Ludwig Quartet, and soloists from the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre National de Lyon. Stefan Cassar also enjoys mixing the arts: with the Italian dancer Francesca Ziviani, he has presented, among others, a show based on the music of John Cage.
He directs festivals such as Nouvelle Renaissance in Corrèze, Un piano en hiver, Les Moments musicaux in Belle-Ile-en-Mer, the Nocturnes in the Lubéron and participates in numerous festivals in France such as L’Opéra au Village in Pourrières at the foot of the Sainte Victoire mountain and abroad, Brussels, Berlin, Basel, Zurich, Monte-Carlo as well as in the United States and Asia. Invited by the Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia, he shone at the 12th Phnom Penh International Music Festival with a Beethoven recital of rare intensity.
His “vigorous playing imbued with intense expressiveness” was praised by the Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper during his recitals in Germany. The French press is enthusiastic about his interpretation of Beethoven’s Third Concerto: “Stefan Cassar delivers an ethereal and delicate vision endowed with a beautiful piano technique… He becomes the ideal interpreter.”
Alongside his concert career, he regularly gives master classes as well as concerts for children with short presentations before each work, making the great piano repertoire more accessible.
